I am certainly not the first person who says this: I am completely, and utterly addicted to the Twilight series. A vampire love story written by Stephenie Mayer. How could I not? I myself am a hopeless romantic, and I am always intrigued, if not, close to believing in supernaturals. The Twilight series hit the jackpot.
Not to mention that I only recently bought the book for no absolute reason but to have some type of reading on the train home (this is Sunday.) Little did I know that I would be so absorbed. The series includes four books, only three has been released. I finished the last three just Wednesday. That’s three days of almost no eating, showering and getting out of bed of reading. I’m still starving for more.
I can go on and on with reasons of why I love the Twilight series. I might as well just make myself one of the 1 million ++ fans worldwide. Although I didn’t expect or realize that this book is so popular. Again, I found the book by accident. Wow. Also, this is the first book, EVER, that I would actually open and read again. Meyer really know how to write and attract the readers to non-stop reading. She writes so beautifully that I am always captivated no matter how many times I re-read her books.
Well, I knew that Hollywood isn’t going to stay still about this, I knew the movie must’ve come out soon! Well, lo-behold, I went online and look it up, and the movie Twilight will be released December 12th, 2008. I checked out the actors. Wow, perfect. I had always guessed that the male actor would be Robert Pattinson as Edward (the leading vampire character), but it was surprising to find Kristen Stewart to play Bella? Wow, I did not expect that. But she’s a great actress nonetheless! Her performance in some horror movie I watched a couple of years ago, she’s a great actress. Plus she’s really gorgeous and she could really pass for both human and vampire
Point is, I AM SO EXCITED.

As a Sunday night entertainment, my boyfriend and I chose to see The Spiderwick Chronicles. Directed by Mark Waters, Spiderwick certainly brought childhood back into our imagination. With magical creatures and plots filled with adventures, this movie is an entertainment for all ages and perfect for the family. The actors are perfect, including two of my favorites: Freddie Highmore (August Rush) and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds).
There are some scary scenes that might be just a tad too scary for children younger than 5 (maybe not the boys)
Creatures ranging from the beautiful flower-like that sings and make you forget about time, and the dark and devil-like Mulgarath who is trying to take over the world. Great special effects and attention to detail were presented with the movie, making us older generations enjoy the movie just as much.
The plot line is fairly simple and predictable: Move in to old house, found an old book, the old book turned out to be a knowledge that’s too dangerous to find, Mulgarath would like to steal the book, adventure begins, and yadda yadda yadda, you can figure out the ending. There are some fun twists and cool introductions to new creatures, making it not so predictable after all.
My only concern is that there aren’t that many creatures in this movie. Spiderwick described the world around us as having many magical-like creatures, but the movie only gave an example of a few. Some flowers, some goblins, a bird-eating pig and a housekeeper. I expected more creatures in the movie, some that would fancy adult humor, but I guess not.
Also I would say that Mark Waters could step this movie just a notch. It was great overall, but I felt as if it needed a little bit more of a “kick.” Maybe it’s the short amount of time (90 minutes) or maybe it’s simply the number of creatures (or lack thereof)
Recommended? Absolutely.
Well, it was around 3:00pm and the roll on the new Resident Evil: Extinction started. The one movie I’ve been waiting for all summer. Why? Well I’ve been following the game (not play it, but simply follow it) and watched all the sequels. I must say: one of the most action-packed movie there is out there! However, this latest sequel brought more disappointments than satisfaction.
First, let’s start with the action. I would expect it to be more action packed, Alice running around, killing people and showing off her true-mutated skills. Yet the movie is simply filled with blood-hungry zombies running around, screaming citizens and a lot of sand. Where has the action gone? Oh, and the intense moments? Sure it gets me all tight in my seat, but it makes me tired at the same time. It tires me to have to go through intense moment one after another.
Second, the story. Wasn’t this sequel supposed to be the last sequel? Spoiler here guys: we are expecting a fourth sequel for Resident Evil. For some reason, when movies reaches sequels that are more than three, it’s basically off my “favorite movies” list (Harry Potter is an exception of course). Which reminds me to mention about the Saw IV trailer I saw earlier. I thought Saw III is supposed to be the last?
Well overall, it’s still pretty action-y and there are some cool scenes and love/warm touches here in there. Unfortunately Resident Evil has lost its gory, action-packed sense from it. Sad. Sad. Sad. Or perhaps this is where the filmmakers are taking it? I don’t know…
